Program

Students selected for the program will spend from the first week of June to the first week of August working with active research groups at CERN, one of the world's premier international laboratories.

A good idea of the kinds of possible research projects students may be involved in can be gained from viewing student presentations from previous years.

CERN, the European Laboratory for Particle Physics, is the future site of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and the birthplace of the World Wide Web.

The program is open to U.S. Citizens and permanent residents. The program will be administered by the University of Michigan Department of Physics, with support from Ford Motor Company and the U.S. National Science Foundation

Applications

Applying for the UM/CERN REU program is easy. You just have to complete these 3 easy steps:

  1. Fill in the Application Form.

  2. Verify that the information you have entered is correct and submit the form.

  3. Arrange to send to us:
    1. An official copy of your college transcripts, and
    2. Two letters of recommendation using this PDF form. (Please do not return these to CERN but to the University of Michigan. Providing your recommenders with a stamped and addressed envelope along with the form will insure they return it to us) , and
    3. A curriculum vitae. (If you don't have a CV you can find some suggestions for how to write one here.)
